Work Experience

Apr 2021-May 2019 Manufacturing Engineer, Joby Aviation

  • Powertrain & Electronics Mfg. team @980

Jun 2019-Apr 2021 Research Assistant (OPT), Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics, NC State

  • Executed design, material and process parameter development via response mapping for Laser & Electron-beam powder-bed fusion (PBF) builds, efforts mainly focused on printing complex OFE Copper geometries for RF devices & vacuum electronics
  • Developed a hybrid process workflow for an electric vehicle OEM by running high-temp polymer deposition trials on a modified printer, segmenting assemblies using DfAM, prototyping fixtures for inspection, and post-processing CT data to characterize surface roughness, internal defects & interface phenomena
  • Consulted with research partners and industry stakeholders to re-design parts taking into account DfAM principles, reducing operational error and ensuring process compliance
  • Optimized the quality of as-received and sieved metal powder via careful sampling, control charts, ANOVA Gage R&R, LECO testing and laser diffraction spectroscopy to improve the size span by 16%, control cross-contamination and minimize surface oxidation
  • Designed vacuum brazing connections between 3D printed RF waveguides and CNC machined parts; analyzed the local strain and diffusion behavior on similar as-printed bimetallic interfaces using tensile tests, electron microscopy and digital image correlation
  • Published CAD drawings, analyzed 100+ datasets within open literature to identify trends and present normalized process maps towards “Additive Manufacturing of Copper and Cu Alloys” (article 24A-5I), ASM Handbook Volume 24A: Additive Manufacturing Processes

Aug 2018-May 2019 Makerspace Student Technician, NCSU Libraries

  • Fabricated > 200 FDM/SLA parts and helped maintain our fleet of Formlabs, Markforged, Ultimaker, Stratasys, Lulzbot, Fusion 3 printers
  • Streamlined the MES workflow by listing FAQs, printing method-size-cost-resolution tradeoff examples, setting-up print queuing & monitoring tools
  • Consulted with patrons to achieve desired results based on their timelines, machine availability, desired material properties, and printed product end-use
  • Trained new users and personnel on machine operation, safety protocols, inventory, CAD/STL file repair, build preparation, support generation
  • Participated in year-round interdisciplinary workshops (Git, IoT, Screen printing, R, Tableau, Markdown, etc.) as part of the Makerspace cohort familiarizing self with new hacks, tools and technologies

Dec 2017-May 2019 Student Assistant – Access Services, NCSU Libraries

  • Customer service and helping patrons navigate the Technology Lending program
  • Article search, citation support, issuing tickets and troubleshooting, clerical and reference assistance
  • Assisted with circular operations including overdues, shelving, shifting, library loans, book maintenance
  • Represented the libraries at various community events, including the University Open House

Jun 2016-Jun 2017 VA/VE Engineer: Cost Innovation Group, Yamaha Motor R&D

  • ★ Cost Innovation Group: Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) Team
  • Youngest amongst 40+ members on the R&D floor to be inducted into YAMAHA Corp’s Cost Innovation Team (VA/VE Division): Together we developed the roadmap for our flagship INDRA project, producing India’s most economic ($450) motorbike
  • Coordinated benchmarking activities and participated in periodic vehicle teardowns of relevant competitive products to capture trends, analyze global best practices and build the VA/VE Ideation Hopper for future domestic and offshore (ASEAN/Latin American) models
  • Summarized benchmarking data to analyze cost-specification metrics for feature selection; worked in tandem with cross-functional teams to ideate & study the feasibility of VA/VE, part localization and assembly configuration change ideas
  • Delivered 5% cost reduction annually across 0.7 million vehicles validating changes through DVP&R and DFMEA, worked with Testing to plan functional, HALT and durability tests to assess the criticality of revisions, and facilitate horizontal deployment to meet QCD targets
  • Coordinated with proprietary/CKD part vendors to drive localization, multi-sourcing for imported engineering materials through detailed study, acceptance testing, and comparison of JIS & local material standards

May 2015-May 2016 Design Engineer (Body Section), Yamaha Motor R&D

  • ★ Body Design Group: INDRA (Innovative & New Development based on Responsible Analysis)
  • Optimized product specification & cost via engineered solutions based on domestic market analytics & customer feedback
  • Recognized for exhibiting the highest level of Hou-Ren-Sou in the Body Design team and multiple instances of communicating subject-specific part-level information and teardown insights to my team via thorough archiving & documentation
  • Designed 3D parametric CAD models, delivered all assigned part & assembly drawings before Production Transfer. Facilitated 40+ Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), lead design reviews in support of production and successful DFM-Kaizen-Monozukuri feedback implementation
  • Autonomously handled the ownership of multiple body subsystems and liaised with cross-functional teams and sourcing partners to conduct joint-suppliers PPAP audits, localization and multi-sourcing activity, and successfully define limits for acceptable functionality prior to FATP
